Our Pens

OUR PENS

We use 100% Japanese ebonite to turn the barrels into a fountain pen except Kaijin Collection which are made of very high quality mother of pearls with parts of ebonite. And then all our pens are made for having Maki-e works on it to be our collections.
All Genkai, Mikado, Kaijin, 12Kaku, Densho and Yokozuna Collections are ED (Eye Dropper) system fountain pens, while the others, Takumi, Hakkaku, Hanryo and Hyotan are fountain pens with C/C (cartridge/convertor system).
All clips on our pens are made of brass either gold or silver plated, while we also paint the clips with genuine Urushi on it to make the pens look better.

EYE DROPPER

eyedropper_2018.jpg

Please do not try to take the tail off from the center bar which is already glued tight there.

  (1) Unscrew the front section.
  (2) Fill with ink up to the lower edge of the stopper.
  (3) Screw the front section back tightly.
  (4) Loosen by unscrewing the tail 1 mm- 2 mm (1/32"-2/32") wide to allow ink to enter the
    front section for writing.
Caution: If the tail is opened too wide, it may cause ink to overflow over the nib.
  (5) After use, hold the pen upward and screw back the tail tight. The ink stopper will block the
ink flow. And the pen should be closed with the cap tightly.
    Caution:
1.
You may leave the pen with the nib horizontally and the tail open when you
don't write, but the pen should not be left with the nib downward and the tail
        open while stop writing.

2.
The tail and the cap should be kept tight at all times when you have the pen in
the pocket or left on the desk.

THE AVAILABLE CLIPS

We generally used either gold plated, rhodium plated or sterling silver clips for our pens. However, when we found painted clips are much better, we just leave this matter to our Maki-e shi and let them paint whenever they think they should do it to match the pens and that’s why we have painted clips with Roiro-migaki, Tame-nuri , Nashiji-nuri , and others. Since the way to paint on clips are almost unlimited, while some customers may not like the way our Maki-e shi do or just like gold plated of sterling silver. As we have many different clips with Urushi painted or gold plated, please understand that the clips on the pens are based on the availability in our stock, and any Urushi painted clip will be charged additional $100.00 MSRP, effective from March 31, 2014.

    $2,400.00

  • The Great Wall

    $26,000.00

    Banri-no Chojo (The Great Wall)
The Great Wall is well known one of the wonders in the world (New 7 Wonder Foundation) the original part were built by the first Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huan more than 2000 years ago. Then added by Ming and other regimes, the Wall has 13,171 miles long , longer than the name Wanri Changchen, Ten Thousand Miles Wall in Chinese. The author, Mr. Masanori Omote worked for more than 5 months on this one, really a very good piece.

  • Maple

    $9,000.00

    SGK Collection - shorter Genkai.

    by Kosetsu.

  • Jurojin

    $30,000.00

    Jurojin by Kosetsu (Tatsuya Todo)

The original painting was made by Soga Shohaku (1730-1781), a picture of happiness. Jurojin himself is the god of longevity, trying to lift the turtle from the water. A white deer sit beside him and a crane was flying in the sky. Then, a pine tree at bank, bamboo and apricot are also shown there. The theme is just a matter of happiness with Shochikubai (pine-bamboo-apricot) symbols of best 1-2-3, and the crane for 1,000 years, turtle for 10,000 years with white deer, all loved to display on New Year by Japanese, the most important holidays of the year. I asked Kosetsu san to draw this masterpiece on our Yokozuna pen, and I’m very glad I gave him the right theme.

  • Karakusa

    $4,200.00

    by Kopgaku.

    Design Idea from Shoso-in

  • I am a Cat

    $20,000.00

It would be very hard to find a Japanese who does not know Natsume Soseki (1867-1916), the very popular novelist in the Meiji era (1868-1912). His portrait was printed on 1000 yen bills for quite a few years until recently, and his collections are still sold at major book stores everywhere today. The most well known of his works is "Kokoro (Heart)", but his first novel "Wagahai Wa Neko De Aru" ( I am a Cat) made him instantly famous as a novelist.

  • Aoinoue

    $10,000.00

Aoinoue (A Noh play). Aoinoue, from "The Tale of Genji" a Hikaru Genji's legal wife was ill in bed, her doctors or monks could not find what was wrong. A Miko (a maid in the service of a shrine) was consulted and found that was an act by Hikaru Genji's former love Rokujo-no Miyasudokoro as she came with worn vehicle to Aoinoue's bedside and harassed her trying to take her to the other world, but the ghost was finally defeated by an ascetic's pray.

  • Tamwe-nuri

  • An Oath at Tao-yen

    $20,000.00

    by Masanopri.

  • Kiritake-ni Hooh

    $38,000.00

    Kiritake-ni Hooh by Masanori
Kiritake (paulownia and bamboo) Acording to the mythology Phoenix lives on tree of Paulownia and eat bamboo, and this gave our artist, Masanori san the idea of Maki-e the Phoenix in the bush of paulownia and bamboo. Technically the author use Taka Maki-e on the Phoenix and the trees, and also use many different sizes of gold and silver mixed powders sprinkled as well as gradation. As there are so many details have to be burnished and polished separately to complete the work.

  • Kamon

    $4,200.00

    Kamon.
